Mahipatua Farm
Sheep & Beef
Mahipatua is a 748ha effective farm employing 2.7 full-time staff. The farm winters approximately 7,800 stock units across a mix of contour from flat to rolling country to steeper hills.
Soil types consist of mainly sand-based soils with some areas of peat on the coastal flats.

Angus Breeding Cows, Steer & Heifer Finishing, Bull Finishing
Sheep Policy
Breeding Ewes mated to terminal and maternal sires, aiming to finish as many lambs as possible before 25th December

Opuna & Oneroa Farms
Dairy
The Trust operates two adjoining dairy units, Opuna and Oneroa, under a single 50/50 sharemilking agreement. Both units are system 2 and supported by a 145ha support block.
Opuna Dairy is the largest unit, covering 280ha effective, operating a 60-bail rotary shed milking approximately 595 peak cows. Oneroa Dairy is 200ha effective, operating a 40 a-side herringbone shed milking approximately 450 peak cows.

Matariki & Kotahi Ngahere
Forestry
The Trust has a 766ha pine forest in compartments across the whenua in a joint venture with Rayonier. The JV was established in 2018 following a first rotation harvest, with establishment completed in 2022.
Pouto Tōpū, in collaboration with the Pouto 2F Trust and Te Uri o Hau Settlement Trust, is exploring the feasibility of operationally combining their respective forests on the Pouto Peninsula. Collectively these forests total approximately 5,000ha.

Manuka Health Partnership
Apiculture
The Trust has a long-term agreement with Manuka Health enabling hive placement on the whenua. Approximately 300 hives are placed annually, taking advantage of the rich manuka flowering across the Pouto Peninsula.

Te Korowai Pito
Our Native Ngahere
On the whenua is our native ngahere, Te Korowai Pito. Our ngahere is recognised as having a significant kauri population for the Pouto Peninsula and the wider Kaipara area. The Trust is committed to protecting and enhancing our ngahere.
Longer-term goals include creating educational, rongoa, and tourism outcomes through Te Korowai Pito, connecting people to this remarkable taonga.


Te Tihi Noho
Accommodation on the Whenua
The Trust recently renovated what used to be the forestry single man's quarters and now operates an accommodation facility on the whenua. The accommodation consists of 6 separate rooms with shared ablution and kitchen facilities.
